Life long cinephile Mark Mumford was a founding member of Richmond Virginia’s singular art-punk no wave band The Heretics from 1980. He received a BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1991. As chairman of VCU Alternative Films he was named one of Richmond Style Magazine’s People To Watch. He was awarded a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship for his narrative and installation video work in 1991. He received a MFA in Video and Performance Art from San Francisco Art Institute in 1994. In SF he interned both at Frameline and Canyon Cinema film distributors, as well as studied avant-garde film under historian Steve Anker, and master filmmakers Ernie Gehr and Janis Crystal Lipzin. He has spent countless hours of wonder in repertory cinemas, SF International Film Festivals, as well as shlepping plastic boxes in video stores. For the last ten years he has worked as an Activity Director for Seniors in retirement communities. He enjoys kayaking, singing, cats, and social dancing when not watching a film.
